AGRO at the top of the heap
AGRO is good at being seen on the international scene. An analysis of five years of publication activities shows that we lie consistently above the world average.
AGRO lies above the world average when it comes to publishing in scientific journals. This is the case for both the number of citations and the quality of journals that we publish in. In addition, we are on par with the institutions that we collaborate with. This is described in a report prepared on the background of extracts from PURE of AGRO’s articles from 2008 to 2013 and compared to extracts from the Web of Science.
When the world average is set to 1.0 we score 1.5 for number of citations and swing between 1.2 and 1.3 for the quality of the journals we publish in. This can be seen in an analysis prepared by the Danish Centre for Studies in Research and Research Policy, Aarhus University. It is difficult to make the figures precise so therefore the centre operates with yet another figure: PPtop10%.
PPtop10% is independent of outlier size and says what percentage of our publications are found in the best 10 percent of publications within the research field they belong to.
The analysis was carried out in the research areas that our four research flagships encompass. We are benchmarked with other institutions that work in the same areas, in addition to Aarhus University, University of Copenhagen, Wageningen UR and Ghent University.
The report states that AGRO generally has a high impact, which is nicely over the expected world average. In some cases our impact is so high that we find ourselves among the absolute elite within the area.
- Even though we have reason to be proud we must not become complacent. On the contrary – we must make an effort to become even better and achieve an even higher impact. Our four research flagships will contribute to raising the profile of the areas in which we are strong, says head of department Erik Steen Kristensen.
You can improve your own impact by, among other things, choosing journals with a high impact factor. You can find help for this on AU Library’s website.
You can also contribute to ensuring AU’s continued financial support to the department by choosing journals with care. The bibliometric research indicator rewards publications that are published in the most respected channels in the topic area. On the website of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science you can find the so-called authority lists. These comprise the journals, book series, conference series and publishers that give you points. The authority lists are valid for two years at a time. You can view the list of journals (in Danish) here.
