All doubts banished

Our students have now moved from the premises at Trøjborg into Katrinebjerg and they are very happy with the new facilities.

Admittedly, the students were somewhat sceptical to start with about their move from Trøjborg to Katrinebjerg – better the devil you know than the devil you don’t. But now that students and teachers have settled into the new premises at Katrinebjergvej 89F in Aarhus, this scepticism has turned to pleasure and optimism.

When visiting Katrinebjerg, AGRO Biweekly’s deputation meets 28-year-old Agrobiology bachelor student Jens Christensen, who proudly shows us around the airy and friendly rooms.

- We were somewhat sceptical about the move. One of our largest worries was that all the many walls would make it seem too constricting. We would rather have had a large open room, but what we now have is one large room with double doors that are virtually always open, but also separate smaller rooms. It is a lot better than what we imagined and it is actually rather nice to have our reading rooms and the Friday bar in separate sections, says Jens.

The classrooms each have a maximum capacity of 20 people, so the large groups – typically on the bachelor studies – are taught in different facilities on campus. But even when the students have lectures on campus they go to Katrinebjerg afterwards. Here there is a cosy kitchen, a Friday bar, called Dyrkbar, reading rooms and offices.

- The kitchen has virtually become our hub, says bachelor student in Agrobiology, Jens Christensen. (Photo: Janne Hansen):

  - Trøjborg was alright, but the tuition and study facilities were too far apart. Here at Katrinebjerg we are in a better location and it is brighter. The study environment is better, and there is also a better social environment, says Jens.

The students are now very busy putting their own touches to the premises. They have ordered posters, maps and plants, and they grow fungi and plants themselves.

Course administrator Rasmus Pedersen has office hours at Katrinebjerg once a week.

- The new premises are more attractive and have a better indoor climate. Neither are we as widely scattered as before, he says while he urges teachers to use the premises more often.

- We would like the VIPs to use this place some more – we have offices that can be used. We also have some space for dissertation students, so please contact me on rasmus.pedersen@au.dk, he urges.

Already from next semester there will be more classes at Katrinebjerg.

The agricultural degree programmes can currently boast about 240 students.
