A new year and a new section
In the beginning of the year, the section "Crop Genetics and Biotechnology" also called the CGB, joined the AGRO family. We have already been a part of daily life in Flakkebjerg for a long period of time, and now we are a permanent part of the department.
We are a small section and once we get the last employments in place, will consist of almost 20 employees. Apart from a gardener and a lab technician, the CGB consists mostly of scientists. We work with the crop plants on a molecular level and our competencies range from molecular genetics and molecular biology to heterologous gene expression, genetic transformation, new plant breeding techniques and much more.
Our purpose is research focused on genetic and molecular biological studies of crop plants such as barley, wheat, carrots, potatoes and ornamental plants. We want to look for plant genetic resources for valuable properties that can create the basis for further development of our crops.
It is not without reason that we see it as a great advantage that we are now part of the Department of Agroecology. It opens up a wide range of possible collaborations that can benefit the CGB and the department's other sections. For example, a combination of molecular techniques with several of the department's other research areas in cultivation, analysis and phenotyping could translate into new understanding and real progress in the industry. The technology is ripe to integrate molecular understanding with data from the field and we look forward to being part of it.
