Action catalogue for improving career development at Department of Agroecology
Here is the new action catalog from the working group for career development, which will be reviewed in a presentation at this week's Researcher Days. The working group encourages everyone to take a look at the catalog already before Researcher Days 3-4. November 2021.
The catalog is divided into five equally important themes:
- Structured development towards multiple career paths
- Mentoring
- Transparency, clarity and visibility
- Gender balance and staff diversity
- Self-confidence and motivation among early career researchers
All five themes are included in the working group's presentation and group work at Researcher Days on 3 November. And the results of the group work will be presented at future section meetings throughout AGRO.
Career development challenges among early career researchers is not an isolated AGRO problem. A recent survey in Nature showed that “more than half, or 56%, have a negative view of the career outlook, and fewer than half would recommend a scientific career to their younger self”. Therefore, recognizing these challenges and making actual changes improving the career outlook of our young scientists could place AGRO ahead in the competition for competent staff.
