AGRO is centrally placed in the Green Transition

The green transition of agriculture and food production is crucial for our society’s possibilities of achieving the many objectives for a sustainable future.

At AGRO we work with many of the challenges posed by the green transition to research, education, innovation and public sector consultancy. This means that we are in a central position in relation to the green transition of our entire society. This can be seen in the increasing extent of our research grants and public sector consultancy tasks.

This means an increasing workload, which places a strain on all in the department, and we need better correlation between tasks and staffing. Therefore, staffing must be increased in the department in almost all areas. Recruitment of many new employees is a major task in the secretariat and for the department’s management, but we try to do it as quickly as possible. However, the recruitment processes are in many cases quite extensive. We will therefore strengthen the secretariat with an extra employee so that we can solve the many tasks not only in relation to recruitment but also with the development and retention of the present employees.

We must work strategically and in a coordinated way at solving the many tasks within the green transition – at the same time, AGRO must be a good place to work. Therefore, the department management has a focus on two areas: 1) handling stress, and 2) a revised strategy for the next 3 years.

In the department management and the local liaison committee, we have discussed how we can work in a structured manner at minimising and handling stress among the employees; the challenges can especially be found among the scientific staff and the PhD students. Over the coming months we will launch a number of activities that can remedy the situation.

At the same time, we will put up a revised strategy for discussion in the department within the next few months. The implementation of the strategy will be embedded in the department management and in the department’s many committees. This should make the strategy accessible and relevant. I hope and expect that we in this way can ensure more relevance and effect of our plans for the development of AGRO. The department’s mission is to support the agricultural green transition.
