Danida research funds to be discussed at meeting in Copenhagen on September 8
It may be possible to have influence on the upcoming call from Danida.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expects to announce the long-awaited Danida Research Advisory Committee call soon. In the new financial bill proposal DKK 140 million is expected to be made available. A relatively quick application process is anticipated with applications being processed before the end of 2016. This could mean that the process will not consist of two phases, as has been the case previously.
The themes of the call are expected to reflect Danish interests as will be seen in the new Danish development strategy. This could mean an emphasis on research that addresses population growth, poverty, climate change, and migration as a combined issue. Research in areas considered to represent Danish strengths, based on innovation and partnerships can also come into focus.
A range of stakeholders, including AGRO, have already written to the Foreign Ministry that these issues require research in areas such as food production, climate, and natural resources, but we do not yet know if this will be the case.
You can learn more about the upcoming call (and perhaps have an influence on the themes - who knows?) at an open discussion meeting in Copenhagen on September 8. The meeting is organised by the Association of Development Researchers (FAU). Representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Research Advisory Committee will be present.
I will attend the meeting and try to promote AGRO’s interests. Input in this regard is very welcome. I would also like to hear from researchers who might be planning to participate in the meeting. You can contact me at torsten@agro.au.dk
