From white walls to lecture halls: Join us for a street party to celebrate the opening of the University City
On 22 May, residents of Aarhus, as well as AU staff and students, are invited to celebrate the opening of the University City with music and festivities.
The university will celebrate the opening of the University City in Trøjborg with a big street party at the loveliest time of year.
Many students and staff have been following the development of the University City on Aarhus Campus. Aarhus BSS, the Kitchen, AU IT and the Department of Molecular Biology already call it home, soon to be joined by Arts. And now it’s almost time to welcome all of you to the University City – an extension of campus that’s more than a campus.
Where the Aarhus Municipal Hospital once stood, this new development combines the university, business, entrepreneurship and everyday life on 115,000 square meters crisscrossed by winding pedestrian walkways and elegant passages.
There’s room for reflection, work and hangouts and open squares for socialising or soaking up the sun. A place students can call home. A recreational space for the local community. A place for AU. And a place for Aarhus.
That’s why the three institutions behind the project – Aarhus University, Aarhus University Research Foundation and FEAS – are inviting the AU community and the larger Aarhus community to an opening party on Friday 22 May. The event will feature a concert by a major artist, guided tours, open house, lectures, film screenings and lots of other fun activities.
The details of the programme will be revealed in the upcoming months on Universitetsbyen.dk. Here, you can sign up for this free event and read more about the transformation the area has undergone. The sign-up page is only available in Danish but international students, staff and visitors are very welcome to sign up and participate. Most lectures at the event will be in Danish; keep an eye on the programme to see which will be in English.
