Dear AU employees,

The outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) is escalating rapidly in a number of countries, including Italy.

Yesterday the Danish Health Authority updated its security precautions and recommendations on the coronavirus in response to these developments. The Danish Health Authority advises that educational institutions to be particularly vigilant.

The stricter security precautions apply to travellers to Denmark from places where the coronavirus is spreading: China (the entire country, with the exception of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau); South Korea (the province of Gyeongbuk and the city Daegu); Iran (entire country); Italy (regions Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto).

The Danish public health authority advises everyone who has returned from one of these affected areas since 2 March 2020 to stay at home for fourteen days after arrival in Denmark. As an employee of Aarhus University, we ask that you comply with the Danish Health Authority’s advice. If this applies to you, please contact your immediate supervisor to make further arrangements, either to work from home (if this is possible given your work responsibilities) and/or to cancel classes if you have teaching responsibilities. Naturally, AU will continue to pay your salary during your illness and/or quarantine.

Stricter security precautions apply to all employees with tasks in the healthcare and eldercare sector (with direct contact with members of the public and patients). If this applies to you, and you have visited one of the affected countries, you must stay home for fourteen days after returning to Denmark. You are subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine period by the authorities: under no circumstances are you allowed to visit hospitals, elder care centres, etc., where there are people who are at particularly high risk if they are infected with the coronavirus.

In general, Aarhus University encourages all students, employees and guests to take care of themselves and to show consideration for their surroundings. This means that you should not come to the university if you have symptoms of a respiratory infection, and that you should follow the recommendations of the Danish Health Authority to prevent infection.
