Lots of commitment at the junior VIP meeting in Flakkebjerg

PhD students and postdocs in Flakkebjerg participated eagerly in the discussion about the proposal for AGRO’s strategy and flagships and provided valuable input to the ongoing process.

2015 marks the first time in AGRO’s history that junior VIP meetings have been held. Judging from the commitment, interest and constructive comments from the participants at the junior VIP meetings in Flakkebjerg and Foulum in September, it will probably not be the last time.

In Flakkebjerg there were approximately 18 PhD students and postdocs present at the meeting 29 September. By far the majority of the young scientists in Flakkebjerg are from abroad so in this area one could say that AGRO’s desire for internationalisation is a success.

As was the case at the corresponding meeting in Foulum (read about that meeting here), the first part of the junior VIP meeting in Flakkebjerg was spent discussing AGRO’s new strategy and flagships. The participants asked for a clearer description of what a flagship actually is and a description of the actual contents of the four flagships.

The participants also asked how the flagships will collaborate and communicate with each other. The young scientists suggested that the flagships be given sub-categories because they felt that the flagships each cover too broad an area and you can end up in a situation in which you feel that you do not belong to a specific flagship.

The comments from the junior VIP meetings will be included in the ongoing process of developing the strategy and the flagships. The descriptions of the four flagships are posted on AGRO’s employee website and can be viewed by following the link at the bottom of this page. Comments to the descriptions are welcome and can be sent to Birgit S. Langvad at langvad@agro.au.dk at the latest 22 October 2015.
