New Deputy Head of Department for Education

I was hired in Foulum in 1996, when the department was still called the Danish Government Research Service for Plant and Soil Science.

Since 2007, when we became part of Aarhus University and began running our own degree programmes, I have been involved in our educational activities as a course coordinator and programme coordinator, and as a member of both the education committee and the study board.  My academic background includes an MSc in Geology from Aarhus University and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from Aalborg University. My research focuses on water and nutrient transport from agricultural land, including the use of drainage mitigation measures such as constructed mini-wetlands and compact filter systems, where transport through drainage systems plays a significant role in their effectiveness.

In my private life, I am married and have two children, both of whom are currently pursuing higher education.

Since the decision in 2021 to relocate our programmes from the Aarhus campus to our campus in Viborg, I have been closely involved in developing our new educational programmes. Initially this work related to our Bachelor’s programme in Plant and Food Science, and now also to our upcoming Master’s programme in Plant and Soil Science, which will launch in 2027. And it does not stop there. It has now also been decided that from 2027 we will offer an international Bachelor of Engineering programme related to agriculture and management.

We face the challenge of building relevant and attractive programmes that can attract both Danish and international students. We are not there yet, but we are working broadly to raise awareness of our new programmes through various outreach activities. At the same time, we must also build an attractive study environment that makes it enjoyable to be a student at AU Viborg. I believe this is achievable.

I am pleased that the department, through my appointment as Vice Head of Department for Education, demonstrates that we take one of the university’s core missions seriously: education and teaching. With this appointment, I hope to contribute further to the development of our programmes, support our teachers, and not least represent the interests of our students. As part of the management team, I will be able to help strengthen the quality of our programmes by maintaining a focus on teaching in relation to the decisions made at the leadership level. Regardless of where our students are in their academic journey, it is important that we support them both academically and personally. I look forward to contributing to that effort.
