Safety on ”re-entry” into fields after spraying

LAMU has drawn up guidelines for use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in fields at the Department

of Agroecology. The guidelines will become effective as from May 2021 and apply to all who walk in

fields at Foulum, Askov and Flakkebjerg.

The decision on requirements for use of PPE was made on the basis of internal trial data at AGRO. The data show a risk of exposure to pesticides when you walk in fields that have been sprayed.

Guidelines for use of personal protective equipment (PPE) on ”re-entry” into fields at AGRO after spraying

Tasks

PPE

Walking in fields 0-24 hours after spraying
(only permitted when the trial requires taking samples or measurements within 24 hours after finalising spraying).

The crop you work in must be dry and without dew!

In cases where it is a condition for use of pesticides that special PPE is used afterwards on re-entry, the trial manager must warn about this.

Minimum requirements for use of PPE

Short cotton gloves with disposable longsleeve nitrile gloves worn on top of the cotton gloves.

Woollen socks and nitrile boots.

Disposable one-piece suit or cotton boiler suit.

Disposable one-piece suit and gloves must be thrown away after use. Cotton suit and socks must be washed after use.

Walking in fields 1-7 days after spraying

In cases where the crop is moist from rain or dew, stricter requirements apply. Please see items listed under minimum requirements.
