The Festival of Research at Aarhus University is traditionally a physical event with speed lectures and hands-on experiments presented to the general public. Due to the COVID-19 situation, we have chosen to convert the festival to a virtual event in order to ensure the execution. At the Festival of Research you and your fellow researchers will have an opportunity to present your work to a popular audience.

The event will take place on Wednesday 28 April 2021 where we will offer a variety of different activities for the public to choose between. The website www.au.dk/fd including the programme will be regularly updated.

You are hereby invited to participate with a speed lecture in Zoom.

What is a speed lecture?

The speed lectures will be live-streamed and have a duration of maximum 30 minutes including chat. The live chat will give the audience the possibility of being involved in co-creation and will facilitate the dialogue between researchers and the general public which is the DNA of the Festival of Research. All speed lectures will take place in Zoom and will be scheduled as webinars including chat.

Your job is:

  • to facilitate and host your speed lecture live, including administering the chat with the audience.

We encourage you to:

  • use a co-creative tool, such as Slido, Mentimeter, Kahoot, or the like.

We will take care of this:

  • setting up a Zoom webinar for your lecture, including assigning you the role as a host
  • sharing your webinar link at the Festival of Research website as well as in the virtual programme
  • emailing an ‘information kit’ including tips and tricks to you so that you are well-equipped to perform your speed lecture
  • marketing of the event.

Your research will reach a broad audience

Historically, at least 1,000 members of the general public visit us during the Festival of Research, which is a free event open to all. Since the event is 100 percent virtual this year, we unfortunately cannot predict the quantity of audience but hope for a wide interest.

The promotion of the event will draw great attention to Aarhus University’s activities, among other things through online advertising, banners and digital billboards in the city, as well as direct marketing to relevant stakeholders. We also make a special effort to generate media coverage of the event and the research that is presented.

Excellent research

The goal is to give the general public an impression of the entire spectrum of excellent research which contributes to Aarhus University’s international reputation as a broad, research-intensive university of excellence.

The Festival of Research is intended to encourage the communication of a broad variety of research fields to a wide audience. All academic staff from all faculties are welcome to contribute activities, and the Festival of Research is a great opportunity to increase public awareness of your research area.

Both seasoned researchers and junior research talents can get involved, and all proposals for activities are welcome: the more inspiring and interactive, the better.
