The European partnership on accelerating farming systems transition –agroecology living labs and research infrastructures -  also known as the Partnership AGROECOLOGY starts January 1, 2024. Led by Juelich in Germany, the co-funded Partnership with 70 partners from 26 countries and a budget of up to EUR 300 million will have a duration of 7 years. As part of a working group under the European Commission’s Standing Committee on Agricultural Research (SCAR) AGRO has been central to the development of the partnership, and as lead in a work package on building capacities of agroecology living labs and research infrastructures AGRO will also be a key actor in the implementation of the partnership. DCA, ICROFS and FOOD are also involved in the partnership.

Two types of research will be carried out: (i) Internal research will be carried out in the already defined work packages, and (ii) by means of at least 7 open, external calls. The pre-announcement of the 1st call has now been released and invites proposals for "Fostering agroecology at farm and landscape levels in support of transnational and transdisciplinary research and/or innovation projects addressing the agroecology transition of both conventional and organic farming systems". As implied in the title, projects are expected to study and implement agroecology at two geographic scales: Theme 1 – at the farm level and its immediate surroundings. Theme 2 – at the landscape or territorial level. Research at both levels must involve living labs. The full announcement expected in February 2024. See the call text here:
