Christmas is just around the corner, but before you devote yourself fully to family, gingerbread cookies and hanging ornaments on your tree, we’d like to give you an update on how things are going with our new integrated campus for research and educations at AU Viborg.

From now on, you will receive a similar status update approximately once every two months. In the meantime, you are always welcome to contact me if you have any questions or input regarding the development of AU Viborg.

The three new degree programmes

Throughout 2022, the university has worked hard on developing the new degree programmes at AU Viborg. We have submitted an application for prequalification of the programme in veterinary medicine and we are expecting an answer at the beginning of the new year. We are currently working on applications for the animal science programme and the plant and food sciences programme. The applications must be submitted for prequalification by 1 February 2023.

In 2023, we will begin to publicise the new study programmes. All three of the programmes will welcome students in the autumn semester of 2024. We can’t wait to tell everyone about the unique education programmes at AU Viborg, where students will become part of a dynamic study environment and experience close collaboration with business and industry, applied research and unique research facilities.

Simultaneously with the development of new study programmes, preparations are also underway for the extensive renovations required for AU Viborg to become a thriving education campus. In the beginning of the new year, we will establish a number of working groups to plan the different types of rooms that will be needed to create an attractive and modern education campus. These planning groups will ensure broad involvement and will be run by academic staff, technical/administrative staff and students.

Renovations at AU Viborg

One of the planning groups will be responsible for premises for student-initiated activities and the study environment. One of their mains tasks will be to incorporate the main building at AU Viborg, as this building will be the heart of the new campus. We have been gathering inputs from students and that input will included in the work of the planning group. Another planning group will be responsible for classrooms. It is important that the rooms can accommodate the educational model that will characterise the new degree programmes at AU Viborg. You can look forward to hearing more about the new educational model early in the new year.

Additional information about both the renovations and the educational model will be available on our internal web portal, which you can read more about at the end of this email.

Recruitment of employees

The Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences is currently recruiting staff for research and teaching positions for the future veterinary medicine programme. The department has advertised nine
academic positions: Three professorships and six associate professorships/tenure tracks (assistant professorships). The application deadline is 11 January and the positions are expected to filled during the spring.

Collaboration with the municipality of Viborg

Launching new degree programmes at AU Viborg and eventually having to house 8-900 students will require some planning. Developing the degree programmes and finding buildings in which to teach them is important, but we also need to think about student housing, transport, leisure activities and other elements in creating a good student life. Luckily, we have very good collaboration with the municipality of Viborg. The municipality has been very open to our plans and is interested in helping AU Viborg become a success from the outset. For example, the municipality will provide a housing guarantee for our prospective students and guarantee good transport options to Foulum. We also have on ongoing dialogue with the municipality on business collaboration, and we have various initiatives to help make AU Viborg a climate-neutral campus.

Communication

We are putting the finishing touches on the first draft of our core narrative in which we will outline what we want to do, what we can do and what we are already doing at AU Viborg. The core narrative will form the basis of all our communication, but should also be adapted to suit the different target groups we want to engage with.

Furthermore, we are ready to launch our internal web portal so that you can keep up-to-date on how the development of AU Viborg is going. There will also be information about who to contact if you have any questions or suggestions for AU Viborg. The page will be updated on a regular basis so please drop by once in a while. Click here to visit the portal >>

With regard to the recruitment of students, we have just received the results of a market survey launched in the autumn. We are now in the process of presenting the results both internally and externally and deciding how we can translate them into a strong recruitment effort targeted at potential students.

Thank you so much for all your hard work this year

As you can see from this email, the development of AU Viborg is well underway, and employees and managers from all branches of our organisation are putting a great deal of effort into the work. It is a pleasure to see everyone’s level of commitment and I am in no doubt that this dedication will help us reach our goal of welcoming new students in 18 months.

For now however, it is time for a well-deserved Christmas holiday. A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.
