We are worth our weight in gold for the industry
There are words of praise from the industry with regard to collaboration with university research. An example is that basic research in wheat has helped the crop breeding company Sejet Planteforædling well on its way.
In an article in Berlingske Business there is praise for the successful collaboration that is found between researchers and the industry. The article is based on a report from Danish Universities that analyses the direct relationship between university research and the growth of businesses.
The crop breeding company Sejet Planteforædling is emphasized as an example. The company states that research has led to development of wheat resistance to yellow rust.
Professor Mogens Støvring Hovmøller, PATENT, works in precisely this area.
- It is important for us and the crop breeding industry that we collaborate. The commercial companies have skills in crop breeding while we have skills in fungal epidemiology, so we complement each other well. Among other things, we have access to a broad collection of fungus isolates and that is important for them, he says.
Senior scientist Birte Boelt, chairman of AGRO’s business collaboration committee, says that the committee has made a survey of the extent of the department's collaboration with commercial companies.
- It actually comprises a significant value first and foremost because it gives us access to interesting scientific challenges and collaborative partners who know what is happening within the industry nationally and internationally, and, not least because it results in direct and indirect financial gains, she says.
