Do you use other people’s material? Then ask permission first!

You must always remember to ask the author or photographer if you want to use their material for example in a poster or article.

[Translate to English:] Dette lidt usædvanlig billede af en ko med kjole på har der i årenes løb været rift om til artikler og undervisningsmateriale. Det har været rart at opleve, at folk har spurgt først, inden de har brugt det. Foto: Janne Hansen

Have you ever been surprised to see one of your illustrations, graphs or photos pop up in another person’s presentation, poster or article – and maybe even without mentioning your name? Is that experience not just a little bit annoying? You can consider that next time you perhaps ”borrow” material from your colleagues or from the Internet.

It is common politeness to ask permission to use other people’s material and customary to credit the author. In some cases, there is copyright on the material and you must ask permission. And in some cases, e.g. photos, you might have to pay to use the material.

If you are in doubt, then you are welcome to contact Janne Hansen. If you are still in doubt – then do not use the material in question!
