Competencies for a good working life
The world is changing. New technologies and forms of collaboration will become available, and we at AGRO will have to keep up. In fact, it is the university’s job to keep ahead. This requires that we constantly develop and strengthen our competencies. This applies regardless of position, age and tasks. We can always improve but it requires us to seek out the necessary competencies.
That is why we have SDDs. Development of competencies for the individual should be a significant part of the SDD. This requires that both manager and employee are well prepared. We will begin on the SDDs later in the autumn. However, it is not too early to begin considering where there is a need to strengthen the competencies.
It is possible to apply for funding for competency development via ‘Den Statslige Kompetencefond’ (the State Sector Competence Fund). You can find more information about this here: https://medarbejdere.au.dk/administration/hr/kompetenceudvikling/kompetencemidler/.
It is up to the individual employee to apply for funding, but at AGRO we would like to see this opportunity exploited. So think about it, and get it agreed upon at your SDD.
For early career researchers (PhD, postdoc and assistant professors) the SDD will in future also focus on career development, regardless of whether the career can continue at the university or in the business world. At AU and AGRO we support career development – therefore it is important to discuss this at the SDD.
There is also some competency development which we will be dealing with in the department. The department’s management team has just been through a development course about management. Now we are looking at how we can strengthen management at other levels in the department. Among other things this concerns project management but also academic coordination between the sections. We also have challenges in how we handle data and GDPR. Therefore, we also look at whether we can prepare courses for specific staff groups. I would like to hear about other needs so that we can get it into our plans.
