Equality - what do we do at AGRO?

An equality conference has been held at AU on 2 March 2023 with the title: "Diversity in the making - Diversity, gender equality and inclusion in research communities: How universities can work towards a more inclusive culture". The purpose of the conference was to provide inspiration for the work of creating inclusive working environments at AU.

At Tech, several institutes have focused on equality and diversity in recruitment. However, it is a long, hard journey before we reach the finish line.

What do we do at AGRO?

In the spring of 2022, we described three initiatives that we would like to continue working with:

  • The challenge of attracting female researchers
  • How can young researchers (before Tenure Track) qualify for permanent positions?
  • Display portraits of newly employed researchers both in the institute and on external pages

We have started on some of the tasks but are far from the finishing line. Inquiries from a group of our active young researchers (WEF) shows that. The department management would like to engage in dialogue with them, to gain inspiration for further work. We are also looking for inspiration from other departments around the subject.

Equality and equal pay

The subject of equality also leads to discussion of equal pay. In connection with the ongoing salary negotiations 2023, the following statistics have been prepared on salary levels for women and men respectively. The figures in the table have been prepared based on our salary at the 2012 level, which is what the university does. Furthermore, feature additions are not part of the statistics. For most job categories, but not all, there is a tendency for men to be paid more than women. It will be a focal point for the management in the upcoming salary negotiations.
