PhD students at AGRO

Working with young people is a pleasure for us with many years behind us. They question things that the rest of us just do because we usually do so. It causes us to rethink and perhaps adjust our workflows.

In AGRO, we have now had PhD students for over 10 years, and this is something we would very much like to continue with in the future. Their work have given many good research results. Furthermore, it has strengthened relationships across culture and nationality.

At the Tech Faculty a new model for ongoing admission to the PhD school has been adopted. The model means that AGRO employees can announce positions when there is a need for it, and the funding has been approved by the Head of Department.

Posting of PhD positions

Positions can now be posted to GSTS on an ongoing basis. You fill in the form "Project information form (GSTS)" (link). This form is sent together with the funding form to Karina R. Christensen, who gets approvals from the Head of Department and sends to GSTS for announcement.

New model for financing PhD studies

In the previous model, we worked with 1/3 of the funding from GSTS, but this model has now stopped. Instead, a bonus model has been prepared, which will be paid out to the department if the finances in the PhD contribute to the department's operations with at least DKK 100,000. This contribution is calculated as follows:

The department's share of Tuition fee + Overhead on PhD salary + Overhead on tuition fee - Department co-financing

How does this implementation benefit the project manager in AGRO?

In order to provide an incentive to apply for PhD salaries to the department, it has been decided by AGRO's department management to grant up to 1½ months' salary per year for supervision (total for main supervisor and possibly co-supervisors). You can apply for this after the PhD student has started. This is described in the updated note on "Guidelines for financing via AU funds in AGRO" (only in Danish).
