The agricultural package is a growth package – not an environmental package

Professor Jørgen E. Olesen would like to see more positive stories in the press about farming, according to an article he has written in the agricultural newspaper Landbrugsavisen.

Professor Jørgen E. Olesen regrets that the agricultural package has been sold as an environmental package and not as a growth package. This is what he writes in an article in the agricultural newspaper Landbrugsavisen under the title ”Tragedien om kvælstof” ("The tragedy about nitrogen"), which you can read (in Danish) here. In the article he points out that the emission of nitrogen to the aquatic environment has been reduced from about 110,000 tons N in 1980’s to just under 60,000 tons N at the present, but that it takes time for all the effects of our past sins to disappear. Jørgen E. Olesen emphasizes the need for agriculture, science and the authorities to stand together in finding the necessary solutions - and that we must be better at telling the good stories about how Danish agriculture solves problems.

The article has been noticed and commented in a positive manner in an editorial in Viborg Stifts Folkeblad. You can read the editorial ”Debat om alt andet end natur” ("Debate about everything else but nature") (in Danish) here.
