AU has revised its staff policy so that it is adapted to the university’s development. The staff policy applies to all employees at AU and expresses the fundamental principles for the university as a workplace. The aim is to create job satisfaction and to give all employees influence on and the best possible conditions for a professional and efficient solution of the university’s tasks.

The revised staff policy has been made simpler and shorter.  It is to a larger degree based on attitudes and values with room for local arrangements compared with the previous staff policy. The new policy comprises eight norms and nine sub-policies that are supplemented with relevant staff administrative guidelines.

The eight norms say that at AU we:

·         respect and support freedom of speech and freedom of research

·         contribute to a cohesive, collaborative university

·         contribute to creating openness, trust and timely communication at all levels

·         demonstrate mutual respect and decency

·         experience good management and good relations with colleagues in our daily work

·         value diversity among colleagues

·         respect the balance between work and private life

·         prioritise personal and professional development

The nine sub-policies comprise the following:

·         Recruitment and employment

·         Pay

·         Competency and career development

·         Sideline employment

·         Work environment

·         Equality and diversity

·         The inclusive labour market

·         Leaves of absence and job mobility

·         Involuntary redundancy

New areas included in the policies are work environment, and equality and diversity.

The new staff policy is available in both Danish and English on several electronic platforms, including AU’s website in both searchable and printable versions. Access is also available via smartphone and tablet.

- Now it is up to us at the local level to implement the staff policy. It would make sense to merge it with our talks in connection with the psychological workplace assessment, says head of department Erik Steen Kristensen.
