Who is the new head of the secretariat? And what does she actually stand for?
My name is Ida. Often you introduce yourself by listing all your experiences and achievements, but you can read about them below, because the first thing I can think of that I want to tell you is that I have looked forward very much to beginning as head of the secretariat.
I asked my five-year-old boy, Carl, for his advice on what I should write. “Write that the world is big and beautiful”. My four-year-old daughter, Eva, had a far more down-to-earth suggestion: “Write that we live in Rønde”. I’ll try to land somewhere in-between and give a brief glimpse and impression of who I am and what I believe in.
To me, management does not give you the right to decide – it gives you the right to serve your organisation and the people it consists of. I believe in management as a collective and collaborative process and that the people we appoint as leaders in an organisation take responsibility when it is needed. I believe in strong communities and that there must be room for the small communities in the large community.
My focus is on results, not hours. I have learnt that reward follows responsibility. And that work happiness does not. At least not by definition. The best friend of work happiness is that which you are enthusiastic about.
I am enthusiastic about the organisation and all the professional and relational processes going on within it. Some people think that everybody can be replaced in an organisation, while others think that an organisation is the people it consists of. I am pragmatic; therefore, my brain understands the first while my heart feels the latter. I think about the plans, the strategy and whether it makes sense for the organisation. I like ideas and development. To get people on board. To be in step. To me, there is nothing better than doing something. Feeling something. Moving forward.
I very much look forward to doing this together with all of you.
And now for my achievements:
I am 35 years old and live with my husband and our two children in Rønde. I like to take time off. And to watch TV series. That is the way I unwind. I like to be on the move. Going for a run. Getting some air in my face and right down into the stomach. While that is happening, I have for many years acted as an advisor to managers as different levels in both the public and private sectors with respect to running and designing an organisation that has happy employees. In other words, I have provided advice at strategic, tactical, and operational levels. I look forward to bringing my experiences into the present role and listening to the organisation in the time to come – see you!
