Kommissorium / Terms of reference

The Teaching Committee is the key committee to the department in relation to teaching, learning. and assessment. It will consider all matters relating to the policy and practice of teaching, learning and assessment in the department and will consider all relevant developments at nationally and international levels and their implications for practice and policy across the department. The Committee will report to the management team in AGRO and AGRO Department Forum.

Functions

  • The committee advises in matters relating to the department's study programmes and teaching, including summer courses and continued training after MSc.
  • The committee advises the head of department on matters in relation to our educational programmes.
  • Make sure new staff members have pedagogical training and mentoring, including maintaining a teaching portfolio.
  • Organisation of relevant seminars for lecturers in relation to different educational matters.
  • To propose and monitor expenditure on teaching as well as teaching loads of staff.
  • To liaise as appropriate with colleges, central university bodies, committees, and external bodies.
  • To advise the department on the integration of undergraduate students in research activities.

Members

All research sections are represented in the committee. The head of department approves the composition of the education committee and appoints a chair of the committee. Additional participants can be invited as needed and other interested parties can participate upon request to the chair of the committee.

Meetings

The committee will meet as frequently as required, but not less than two meetings per calendar year.

Administrative support

The secretariat at the department will support the committee in their meetings.
